How the system is put together

A solar array feeds a controller, which drives a submersible pump sized for the depth and flow you need. Water is lifted into a storage tank, and everything downstream, whether that is irrigation, livestock or household supply, draws from the tank.

Because the tank buffers supply, day-to-day variation in sunlight matters far less than people expect. What matters is that the system delivers the volume you need across a typical day.

  • Static and dynamic water level, which determines the real lift
  • Flow required, in cubic metres per day rather than a vague figure
  • Tank height and distance, which add to the total head
  • Panel location and shading
