One of the first questions most households ask about solar is whether there is government help to pay for it. In Cyprus the answer is yes, there are state schemes that support installing solar and storage, but the way they work is widely misunderstood, and a lot of the figures you find online are out of date.
This guide explains how to think about solar grants sensibly, without relying on numbers that may have already changed.
Who runs the schemes
Solar support in Cyprus is administered by the government, specifically the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, together with the RES and Energy Saving Fund. These are the bodies that decide which schemes exist, how much they pay, who qualifies and when applications open and close. No installer controls any of this, which is an important thing to keep in mind when a company advertises a specific grant figure to win your business.
Why we do not quote exact amounts
Grant amounts and rules in Cyprus have been revised more than once, and schemes open and close in rounds. A figure that was correct a year ago may be wrong today, and a scheme that was open last season may be fully subscribed now. For that reason, quoting a fixed number on a website is more likely to mislead you than help you. The responsible approach is to check the current terms at the moment you are ready to apply.
How to check what actually applies to you
The reliable source is always the official government information, published on gov.cy and through the Ministry of Energy. That is where current schemes, amounts, eligibility criteria and deadlines are set out. Before you commit to anything, it is worth confirming the live terms there rather than relying on a third-party summary.
How we help
When we prepare a free study for your property, checking the current support schemes is part of the work. We look at what is open, give you an honest view of whether your project is likely to qualify, and point you to the official source so you can verify it yourself. If your situation is unlikely to qualify, we tell you that too, rather than letting you build expectations around support that may not arrive.
Grants can genuinely help, but they should be one input into your decision, not the whole reason for it. A well designed system that fits your consumption pays for itself through self-consumption regardless of any grant, and any support you do receive is a bonus on top.
