Solar for Cyprus businesses: what actually changes at commercial scale
Bigger is not just "more of the same". Commercial and industrial solar involves different priorities, different equipment, and a different way of thinking about sizing.

Most solar content online is written for homeowners: how many panels, what battery size, how fast it pays back. Businesses asking the same questions get answers that do not quite fit, because the priorities change once you move past residential scale.
The goal usually is not the same
A home system is mostly about self-consumption and, increasingly, backup. A business often has a second, equally important goal: managing peak demand.
- Many commercial tariffs charge for the highest demand recorded in a billing period, not just energy used
- A battery that discharges during that peak, called peak shaving, cuts that charge meaningfully
- This works independent of how much solar you generate, a lever homeowners simply do not have
Load profile matters more than roof size
A hotel, a cold store and an office building can have identical roof areas and completely different solar needs, because consumption happens at different times of day:
- A hotel's air conditioning peaks in the afternoon
- A cold store runs continuously
- An office is flat during work hours, near zero at night and weekends
Sizing from roof area alone, without mapping the real load profile, routinely produces a mismatched system, where the cost of getting it wrong is far higher than on a home.
The equipment class changes
Residential inverters and battery packs are not built for the duty cycle, backup capacity or parallel scaling that commercial sites need. At this scale we move to KSTAR's commercial and industrial platform:

Despite all of this, the underlying principle does not change: the right system comes from your actual consumption and demand data, not a package size picked off a page. For a business, that means:
- Your tariff structure
- Your demand charges, if any apply
- Your load profile across a representative period
